Trip 173 - Friday - June 5th

Quick trip to do something ...

I brought the new Waterlift and Muffler with to figure out where to put them. The muffler and exhaust hose I have, are thirty years old. And, like alot of everything else, it is time.

Some of you have asked "What happened to the Blog?" and all the Trips to Lake City etc.

I was laid off my job in April due the Economy and, I took some time off to withdraw from life - for a while. I looked back, and since June of 1962, this was the first time I simply laid around and did very little for a while.

Since then, I have worked on the house. I have painted (and repaired) the bathroom, master bedroom and dining room. The bathroom needed alot of work where paint met wood, and honestly, that brought me to my knees. Good, and proper ...

I have the loft and utility room left and then, the basement. Altogether, about seventeen gallons of paint will be dipped from the bucket, and smeared onto the walls. Maybe more ...

Then some yardwork, and the rest will wait til the fall.

Btw, I gave up trying to answer "When will this be done?". Now, all I know, is "What is next.".

A waterlift is used to collect the exhaust fumes/gases and the water from the engine cooling system. The water is injected into the exhaust manifold to cool everything before it is collected in the lift.

Water and gas come into the lift into an expansion chamber, then all goes down into a collection chamber and then get blown out the end into the muffler. From there, down the exhaust tubing and out the transom.

Here is the muffler and serves as a secondary expansion chamber and, does some acoustic muffling.

The exhaust hose is very flexible and will work just fine.

Here is the Vetus diagram. I am not putting in the gooseneck. Water from the engine is in blue, exhaust in red.

Now, I have to make some brackets from wood, coat them with epoxy and install them. Plus, redo the exhaust manifold itself, make the heat exchanger and install/plumb a pump to circulate lake water thru the exchanger to cool the engine water.

And yes, I cleaned out and dried the bilge before I left.

Later ...
