Trip 139 - Thursday Evening - May 27th

The missing part arrived, Marcia picked it up and down the road we went. Now, the cover over the drum fits fine and does not flop around. With that wrapped, it was time to hang some cloth!

We purchased deck shoes in Annapolis last fall. Here they are, on the deck, for the first time.

These little duckies could not have been more than 2-3 days old. They are -----so----- cute!

A long time ago, I went up to the Drive Thru for a Burger King. There, on the road was a tiny little duckie just like these. I got out, held it in the palm of my hand and gave it to my mother-in-law Nellie, who raised it by hand. Got up every 2-3 hours at night to feed it.

She kept it in a cat carrier for sleeping, and brought it outside to a pool so it could splash about but that duck followed mama all over.

When it was time for the duck to go, we brought it to the Wildlife Rehab Center and they taught it to fly.

You may not believe this, but it is true. Since those early nineties, that duck, with its partner, came back every spring, this year too, walked up the yard to the patio door in back and tapped on the glass. If mama was able, she would go down and the duck let her pick it up and hold it for a couple minutes. Then, waddled over to her partner and off they went. That has been going on each year since. I never knew a duck could live, much less survive, that long ...

Tie the Halyard to the upper part that slides up and down the stay and pulls the sail to the top.

Look careful and you will see a 'Guide' that helps the leading edge of the sail to thread easier onto the extrusion. It comes from the Furler Drum, on a short length of white line and attaches to the sail. The tiny shiny thing down there.

Made a believer out of me. It guided that leading edge right on up and I brought the sail up in no time.

All done. And the loose end sure flopped about in the breeze we had.

Now, by holding onto the Sheet and pulling onto the Furler Line, the Jib is rolled right up around the extrusions on the forestay. Neat ...

The extra cloth you see on the edge is a different material and is UV Resistant and forms the outside of the furled sail for weather protection as well.

The Masthead is looking about like it should.

Reflections ... Beautiful evening it was.

The Main, all ready to go.

Time to go home.

The Full Moon over the Harbor.

Later ...
