Sail 117- Wednesday Evening - Sept 30th

I was on my way for a haircut. (Not one hair, but all of them. A hairscut?) Tom called and said we should go sailing. The wind was up and he thought it would be nice on the lake. I canceled the hairscut and scurried home to take care of the livestock, change and one more time, head south.

Picked up Tom in Red Wing and away we go.

On Lake Pepin, for Empty Pockets, when the wind is parallel to the lake, rollers of 12-18", white caps just breaking and about two feet wide?

Perfect.

We stayed close to shore being, as we set the sails after dark and were alone most of the time. The 3/4 moon made is almost like twilight on the water.

This was a sail for the books. We had a wonderful time.

Looks wacky but the wind was from the east (right side of the image (picture) for you folks from Loma Linde). But we came out of the harbor, shot due east to set sail, ended up at the bottom, then up to the northeast and ended in the long tack to the northwest. Then, back and forth past the point and remarkably, almost to where we started at the bottom, sailed past and behind the point, and tucked behind the trees we doused the sails and motored back to the slip.

20-25 degree list all night. Upwards to 45 at times.

Distance 11.3 miles
Top Speed 7.6mph
Avg Speed 5.6mph

One for the books ...

Leaving the harbor. Tom is an excellent sailor. Enjoys the water and someday, will have something of his own. Trailerable or docked. Someday ...

"Moon Over Hernandez" was Ansel Adams most known image.

Here is my version of "Moon Over The Jibsail"

Sailing ...

Tried to get an image of the rollers and whitecaps. Use your imagination.
