Trip 94/95/96 - Friday Evening - Saturday July 31st - Aug 1st
Friday night I continued the abject frustration of trying to get an engine that used to run, running again. I gave up. It simply will not exceed a crappy idle. So, I went thru the checklist of what could - what could not, what should - what should not, what might - what might not, what did - what did not, what would - what would not and if prayer works, why doesn't that dad-blamed engine?
I made sure fuel was getting from the tank thru the Fuel Lift Pump and thru the Fuel Injector Pump, the Injector and back to the tank. Yes, lots and lots.
I made sure fuel was getting to the injector. Yes, it was.
I tried to ascertain the innards were still connected. Could not.
Saturday, I returned and pulled the check valve from the Fuel Injector Pump and made sure all was fin. It was.
Put all back together, no change.
Decided the Governor must be punk. Decided to return to Woodbury and se what the Tech Manual had to say of that, before I opened up something with springs and tiny ball bearings flying all about Empty Pockets.
Got home. Read the Manual. Then a 1 1/2 hour Power Nap.
Back to Empty Pockets.
I removed the Engine Breather and ascertained all was well there with the Throttle Linkage and Throttle Arm inside the engine.
Put Linkage back on ...
After alotta thought, it is looking more and more either the Fuel Injector Pump is plugged and can not deliver more fuel or the Injector is plugged and cannot spray more fuel.
Decided to pull the Fuel Injector and look for Big Clunks of rubber or whatever ...
Got it out and it is clean as a whistle inside.
Went home to punt ...

A couple of you asked for some pix of Marcia. These are the best we have (for now) created across the Bay from Annapolis a bit ago.
(I can still hold my breath long enough for stunning images like these!)

Grrrrrrrrrr .... Why do you not run?

I thought of checking how much fuel gets to the Injector. Appears to be plenty but could not tell if more fuel was delivered for high throttle.

I taped the Throttle wide open, really could not tell

I put an apron all about the engine and removed the check valve for the Fuel Injector Pump. (Circled in red below)
Then, I used the paddle on the Fuel Lift Pump and flushed any goo from the innards of the Fuel Injector Pump.

I like to lay my tools on a towel. They do not roll about and do not clang when laid down.

After a bit of effort, I can finally get at the Fuel Injector Pump.

I removed the Fuel Injector Pump and opened it up and flushed the insides with lacquer thinner. Nothing came out.
Tomorrow I will swap out the rebuilt Injector with the old one and see if that helps. If not, I will swap out the Fuel Injector pump as well.
Later ...
