Trip 67 - Sunday - March 22nd

Went down to continue cleaning up the compartments. Wanted to get all done except for the Diesel Gunk areas.

Found this at Sams Club. Really a great size for Island Sunset. Will fit in the Galley just fine.

It is really surprising how fast the lake ice gets rotten. The upper and eastern areas are clear already.

Tom stopped by with Theresa. One day he will settle down (ooops).

Today's Instruments and Fluids of Terror and Torture. This stuff really burns, but, my oh my, does it take the glock off ...

Before.

After.

I did not have much chance to document more, plus, you can visual anyways.

You have to be careful with the stripper, else the paint and goo it removes remains goo. The goal is to get it to dissolve in the water one way or the other.

In the end, what was most effective, was to apply a liberal coating of stripper. Then a 50/50 mix of Dawn/water. Also glop the Dawn on your scrubbrush and scrub the area with stripper. This went the extra mile to make sure all areas were done adequately and combined the goo with the Dawn and subsequently went down the drain after being sprayed with the hose.

The bilge pump to the rescue again. Pumped it out many, many times.

I kept finding these little hard rubber pieces. All over they were. This must be only a fourth of the stash. I have no clue what they are good for nor where they came from. They simply showed up in the glop.

Another day.

For the diesel areas, I am going to get two pump sprayers like you would use on a lawn. One for the stripper, the other for the Dawn/water. Get back into the outer recesses, spray the stripper, wait, spray the Dawn, use a brush on a handle and even things up, wash, done.

Remember the hole I simply can not stand? My oldest son Tim, came up with a great idea. Wrap the plug that came out in fiberglas/epoxy and from the inside, pull it in. He gets these ideas from his mother's side. Not mine.

I found after 4-5 hours of stripper fumes, a fellow gets a little loopy. I have often maintained painters of the Olden Days, would always stop at a bar on the way home. Why? So the alcohol could dissolve the turpentine and paint fumes out of their system. I know. It works for me. And yes, I will have a glass for medicinal purposes tonight.

Btw, the bilge was clean and dry when I left.

Later ...
