Trip 52 - Friday Morning - October 24th
Well, now that Island Sunset is in the Slings, it is time to get it On The Hard. And, get all the accouterment of civilization off The Boate.
Except, the Spirits of Janice Joplin.
After all, we are not -that- uncivilized and, one does need a nip now and then to ward off whatever is still in the bilge, or, the spirits that wander about a stilled boat yard. Not to mention the occasional Snake Bite or other Medicinal things one might need when restoring a ship like Island Sunset when inhaling fibreglas dust, moldy bilge water, holding tank removal, or simply enjoying a sunset out the port window on a wintry evening.

Pretty forlorn on a foggy morning.

The Lift can be moved anywhere and the crew is really good. They took alot of care to set The Boate down exactly right. I am certainly glad I had the cradle repaired. Having the (Adjustable - For our friends in Loma Linde) Jackscrews, was great. No more caved in hulls. Each supporting leg is exactly where it belongs.

All set to park it for the #$%$^ ^$ &## Minnesota Winter.
I promise, one day, Island Sunset (or Island Sunset II) -will- motor down this river to the Gulf and then, the --warm-- Caribbean. --Before-- I, or Marcia, am in a wheel chair while someone mixes our creamy damn'ed porridge!

The lift in profile.

The keel bears 90% of the weight. The supporting pads only keep it from tipping. No more crushed hulls.

More cleaning for where the slings supported Island Sunset.

Backing it in, Setting it down. I was a little surprised when the crew actually used a level to make certain all would drain from the deck and cockpit properly.

Rd Adm Herman, USN Rtrd, a highly decorated WW II and Korean veteran, Advisor to the Vietnam Theatre, decided to let others do the heavy lifting and he napped and dozed while all of us worked in the cold.
(Note: The McD's hashbrowns are gone!)

Just a good idea for supporting the mast to make a tent for the winter.

Here the color of the stain is fairly good indeed.

Once more, a Construction Zone.

More ideas how to make a Deck Cover. He uses the boat as a mannequin. Neat! Then, cuts carefully and goes back home to stitch and sew.

Looking like it is kinda full. And it is.

Island Sunset's wintry home On The Hard.
(Imagine tears on my cheek at this time.)

More Halloween Spirit.

Well, the Ending Image of the appliance for our Ends for the End Of The Season! Crap!
Later ...
