Trip 14 - Monday - May 26th
Memorial Day ... A day of remembrance for those who have kept us free.
+++
We headed downriver to do some more work on Ye Olde Boate. This trip, we believe we have found a suitable name. More on that some other time.

Yes, we have a garage. Marcia believes there is more of The Boate in our garage than at the dock in Lake City. Maybe she is right.

Remember that pile of knots? Here it is again. A pile of knots. I kept three of the lines but one, sadly, had to go.

These are called "Fenders" and are tied alongside the boat to keep the hull away from other boats and its Big Enemy, the dock. I like to braid the line to the fender. That way, it is one less knot to come untied.

I use a torch and copper tip to heat the line to fuse the ends together so it does not unravel.

We decided to take Marcia's car. It is advertised as 4 cubic feet of trunk space. I believe that is a generous number indeed. More like 2 or so.

At the boat, first thing is to take a break and formulate a battle plan for the day.

How things usually look to me after I have been drinking Janice Joplin' Drink from The Olde South. But take heart, in time, later that day, it does get better

Marcia worked on the other end, I did the deck. Looks lots better now.

Breaktime after all is done. Sure looks cleaner.
It was easier to put on the new rub rail on this side with The Boate backed into the slip.
Folks from Loma Linde do this all the time. Normal for them.

Need that other lens again, I do.

Thought you may like some snaps of braiding line to a fender. Not meant to be instructional, just a photo of record.

Heat shrink tubing starts big, is heated and gets smaller.

A Hot Air Gun. A hair dryer on mucho steroids.

All nice and tight now.

Can't braid with these.

Some heat shrink makes it into a large shoelace.

All set, let's go.

The eye of the braid will be about this big.

Getting started. Sometimes this is really tricky.

The finished product - ready for the torch and trimming.
Later ...
